Management of Nursing Care for Older Adults at Risk of Urinary Incontinence Through Education and Kegel Exercises in Community IX, Pangkalan Masyhur, Medan Johor
Abstract
Urinary incontinence is a common health problem among older adults that significantly affects their quality of life. This report aims to describe the nursing care implementation for elderly individuals at risk of urinary incontinence through health education and Kegel exercises in Community IX, Pangkalan Masyhur, Medan Johor. The method applied was a community nursing approach involving assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, and evaluation conducted over three days with two elderly clients. Health education was delivered using leaflets, and Kegel exercises were practiced directly according to each client’s ability. The results showed an increase in clients’ knowledge of urinary incontinence, greater awareness of the importance of Kegel exercises, and behavioral changes in the form of a commitment to continue the exercise independently. The innovation of this program lies in the use of direct educational approaches and simple exercise techniques that can be sustainably applied at home. This intervention not only serves as a non-pharmacological solution but also empowers older adults to manage their health independently. Further development includes the use of digital media as daily training guides. Such education-based nursing interventions with simple physical training can be widely applied to improve service quality and strengthen community health promotion.
