Nursing Care Management for Elderly with Hypertension Through PATUH Behavioral Education in Klambir Lima Kampung Village
Abstract
Hypertension is one of the major health problems among the elderly that can lead to serious complications inot managed properly. The “PATUH” behavioral-based health education serves as an innovative and structured approach to help hypertensive patients enhance their understanding and adopt healthy behaviors. This practicum aimed to manage nursing care for elderly patients with hypertension through “PATUH” behavioral education in Klambir Lima Kampung Village. The program was implemented over three days using a stepwise education method focusing on the five components of PATUH: routine blood pressure checks, proper medication adherence, healthy diet, regular physical activity, and avoidance of smoking/stress. The education was delivered through visual leaflets, two-way discussions, light activity simulations, and supported by an innovation combining slow deep breathing and dhikr as a form of spiritual relaxation therapy. Additionally, a daily PATUH reminder card was provided to encourage behavioral tracking. The results showed increased understanding among the elderly regarding hypertension management, active participation in education sessions, and the adoption of healthier behaviors in daily life. The integration of spiritual approaches and therapeutic communication proved effective in building motivation and enhancing self-management in elderly hypertension care. This intervention holds significant potential for broader application in community nursing practice, especially with active family involvement.
