| dc.description.abstract | This research aimed to reveal and analyze the library management of Medan City Library and Archive Department. The main focus of this research is on four managerial function, which are planning, organizing, directing, and controlling; these functions were then applied in the library operation. This research used descriptive method, whereas the data collection techniques used are literature studies, observation, interview, and documentation. The result of this research shows that the library management of Medan City Library and Archive Department was done systematically. Planning was conducted in the form of short-term, medium-term, and long-term work plans. Organizing implementation was seen through an organizational structure which involves 71 staffs, including 13 librarians. Directing was performed through training and intensive communication between staffs, as well as the implementation of five programs and six library services. Conversely, the function of controlling was executed through supervision and evaluation toward staffs’ performances, encouragement, and workload adjustment based on individual competence. Based on the said result, it can be concluded that the library management of Medan City Library and Archive Department had provided optimized library and archive services, however, some improvements can be done in terms of library management supervision. | en_US |
