| dc.description.abstract | Cancer is one of the leading causes of death worldwide, affecting not only patients but also families as the primary support system. This practicum aimed to manage family nursing care for cancer patients from the Nias ethnic group in Medan City using the five family tasks approach, which includes recognizing health problems, making decisions, providing care, modifying the environment, and utilizing health services. Assessments were conducted on three families with members diagnosed with endometrial cancer, leukemia, and facial tumors. The results showed that families experienced difficulties in recognizing changes in the patient's condition, making joint decisions, and effectively sharing caregiving responsibilities. Interventions were implemented through education, counseling, family communication facilitation, and assistance during the decision-making process. Evaluation indicated improvements in knowledge, active involvement of family members in caregiving, as well as enhanced ability to identify warning symptoms and appropriately utilize health services. A family nursing approach based on the five essential tasks, adapted to local cultural values, proved effective in improving care outcomes and the quality of life for both patients and their families. | en_US |
