Nursing Care Management for Patients with Liver Cirrhosis: Chronic Pain through Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Deep Breathing Relaxation Therapy in Rindu A4 Ward of RSUP H. Adam Malik
Abstract
Liver cirrhosis is a progressive liver disease characterized by diffuse fibrosis and nodules. Patients with liver cirrhosis often experience various complications, one of which is chronic pain that can significantly affect their quality of life. Pain management can be approached both pharmacologically and non-pharmacologically. One non-pharmacological method proven to help reduce chronic pain in liver cirrhosis patients is Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) and Deep Breathing Exercises (DBE). These exercises aim to relax the body's muscles and calm the mind, thereby reducing the sensation of pain. This senior practicum aimed to determine whether Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Deep Breathing could effectively reduce chronic pain in three liver cirrhosis patients treated in the RA4 Inpatient Ward of RSUP H. Adam Malik. Based on the nursing care management provided to the three patients, there were observable differences in the pain levels reported before and after the implementation of PMR and DBE. In conclusion, the implementation of Progressive Muscle Relaxation and Deep Breathing exercises was shown to be successful and effective in reducing chronic pain among liver cirrhosis patients treated in the RA4 Inpatient Ward of RSUP H. Adam Malik.
