Peran Mulsa Jerami Padi dan Pupuk Kandang Sapi terhadap Pertumbuhan dan Produksi Sorgum (Sorghum bicolor L.).
The Role of Rice Straw Mulch and Cow Manure on the Growth and Production of Sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.).
Abstract
Efforts to increase the productivity of sorghum (Sorghum bicolor L.) as an alternative cereal crop can be done through an environmentally friendly cultivation approach, one of which is by utilizing local organic materials. This research aim to evaluate the effect of using rice straw mulch and cow manure on the growth and production of sorghum plants. This research was carried out from March to June 2025. Located in the (Agricultural Instrument Standard Testing and Implementation Plant) experimental field in Pasar Miring Village, Pagar Merbau District, Deli Serdang Regency, North Sumatra. This research Used the Split Plot design, The main plots were straw mulch applications (no straw mulch and 3 kg/plot straw mulch), while the subplots were cattle manure fertilizer doses (0, 1, 2, and 3 kg/plot). The results showed that the treatment with 3 kg/plot of rice straw mulch application could increase plant height, stem diameter, flowering age, seed weight per sample, seed weight per plot, panicle weight per sample, panicle weight per plot, and 1000-seed weight. The application of 3 kg/plot of cow manure increased plant height to 300.48 cm, stem diameter to 28.72 mm, seed weight per plant and total plant weight per plot to 55.21 and 897.38 g, ear weight per plant and total ear weight per plot of plants at 58.56 g and 1173.36 g, respectively, and 1000-seed weight at 27.34 g. There was a significant interaction between the flowering age treatment M0K2 and accelerated flowering age of 59.96 days.
