Nursing Care for Epilepsy Children Experiencing Anxiety Problems Due to Hospitalization through the Application of Play Therapy: Coloring at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital
Abstract
Epilepsy is one of the most common chronic neurogical conditions in children characterized by recurrent seizures that can occur suddenly without warning due to electrical disturbances in the brain. This conditions not only has a physical impact, but also a significant psychological impact such as anxiety, especially when undergoing hospitalization. Hospitalization is a frightening experience for children due to the unfamiliar environment and stressful medical procedures. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the application of play therapy: coloring in reducing anxiety levels in epilepsy children at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital. The method used in this study is nursing care with a nursing process approach which includes assessment, diagnosis, planning, and evaluation. Measurement of anxiety levels using the Face Anxiety Scale (FAS). Evaluation results after the implementation of play therapy: coloring for three days showed a decrease in anxiety levels from the severe category (FAS score 3) to the mild category (FAS score 1). In addition, there were positive behavioral changes such as increased eye contact, smiles, and active participation during therapy. The conclusion of this study is that the application of play therapy: coloring is proven effective in reducing anxiety in children experiencing hospitalization problems. It is suggested that the application of play therapy: coloring as a non-pharmacological intervention that can be used in pediatric nursing care in hospitals.
