Cancer is the leading cause of death globally and continues to increase in cases every year, including in Indonesia. Cancer not only affects patients, but also places a large psychological, social, and economic burden on families as the main support system in the care process. This practicum aims to manage family nursing care for cancer patients from the Batak Toba tribe in Medan City, with a five-task family health approach, namely recognizing health problems, decision making, providing care, modifying the environment, and utilizing health facilities. The study was conducted on three families from the Batak Toba tribe with family members suffering from thyroid cancer, uterine cancer, and bladder cancer. The results of the study showed that families were not optimal in carrying out family health functions, especially in recognizing symptoms early, making timely medical decisions, and providing care that was appropriate to the patient's condition. The nursing care plan carried out included health education, preparing a control schedule, self-care training, and fostering healthy living behaviors. The evaluation showed an increase in understanding and active involvement of families in patient care, as well as the ability to recognize danger signs and utilize health services appropriately. Family nursing approach based on five main tasks adapted to local cultural values has been proven to improve the effectiveness of care and the quality of life of patients and their families.en_US
