This study aims to examine the effect of stress on emotional eating among undergraduate students completing their final projects, as well as the moderating role of self-control. The research employed a quantitative approach with a survey method involving 300 students in Medan who were in the process of completing their theses. Instruments included the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS), a self-control scale, and the Dutch Eating Behavior Questionnaire (DEBQ). Data were analyzed using Moderated Regression Analysis (MRA). The findings revealed that stress significantly influenced emotional eating with a contribution of 10% and a positive direction, although the effect size was relatively small. However, self-control significantly moderated the relationship with an effective contribution of 53% in a negative direction. This indicates that higher levels of self-control weaken the impact of stress on emotional eating tendencies. These results highlight the importance of self-control as a protective factor in preventing emotional eating as a maladaptive coping strategy for stress.
