Background: Pharmaceutical Wholesalers (PBF) are pharmaceutical distribution
facilities that must be supervised by a Responsible Pharmacist. Pharmacists play a crucial
role in ensuring the quality, safety, and efficiency of drug distribution in accordance with
Good Distribution Practices (GDP). Therefore, prospective pharmacists need direct
experience through the Pharmacist Professional Practice (PKPA).
Objective: To enable prospective pharmacists to understand the professional roles,
functions, and responsibilities of pharmacists in PBF according to GDP guidelines and
applicable regulations.
Method: PKPA was conducted at PT. Enseval Putera Megatrading Tbk., Medan Branch,
from November 1st to 28th, 2024, under the guidance of the responsible pharmacist. The
methods used were direct observation and participatory practice in pharmaceutical
distribution activities.
Results: PKPA students carried out activities including prescription screening,
understanding drug distribution flows, learning about warehouse storage systems,
ensuring quality assurance during distribution, and handling returned drugs.
Conclusion: The role of pharmacists in PBF includes implementing, supervising, and
evaluating distribution activities in accordance with GDP principles, ensuring that drug
quality is maintained up to healthcare facilities.
