Background: Pharmacists play a vital role in supporting policies and monitoring the circulation of drugs and food within government institutions. To prepare future pharmacists, the Pharmacist Professional Work Practice (PKPA) provides direct learning experiences.
Objective: This program aimed to enhance students’ understanding of pharmacists’ roles, functions, and responsibilities at the National Agency of Drug and Food Control (BPOM) and to enrich their practical skills in food supervision.
Methods: The PKPA was conducted from September 2 to 27, 2024, at the Directorate of Processed Food Circulation Control, BPOM RI. Activities included lectures, observation, regulatory analysis, public complaint reviews, and direct involvement in food supervision tasks.
Results: Participants gained comprehensive knowledge of processed food circulation regulations, food labeling and advertising procedures, as well as export-import mechanisms. Furthermore, their regulatory analysis skills and practical competencies in food supervision improved significantly.
Conclusion: PKPA at BPOM significantly contributes to equipping future pharmacists with the knowledge, skills, and practical experience required to actively ensure the quality, safety, and authenticity of food products in Indonesia.
