Management of Nursing Care and Services for COPD Patients with Hypertension through the Provision of DASH Diet Education in the RA-5 Integrated Inpatient Ward at H. Adam Malik General Hospital, Medan
Abstract
Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a common lung disease that causes restricted airflow and breathing problems, often referred to as emphysema or chronic bronchitis. Hypertension is generally referred to as a silent killer because it does not show any symptoms at all. This study was conducted using a case study method with a nursing process approach that includes: assessment, data analysis, nursing planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nursing diagnoses identified for Mr. A based on data analysis were three in number: Ineffective Breathing Pattern, Acute Pain, and Knowledge Deficit. The evaluation criteria for the Airway Management intervention were improved respiratory rate and reduced shortness of breath. The evaluation criteria for the Pain Management intervention were that the pain scale decreased to level 1, and the patient demonstrated relaxed facial and body expressions. Furthermore, the evaluation criteria for the DASH Diet Education intervention indicated that Mr. A's knowledge of the appropriate dietary pattern for hypertensive patients had improved. The patient stated that he understood the dietary guidelines based on the DASH Diet method.
