Caregiver role strain is one of the psychosocial problems often experienced by
clients who care for family members with auditory hallucination nursing problems.
In addition, the psychological burden felt by clients as caregivers includes physical
fatigue due to the demands of caring, emotional stress due to facing changes in
client behavior, financial burden due to medical and care costs, to disruption of
personal life such as loss of time for oneself, work, and social relations. This senior
practicum aims to manage and implement nursing care for clients with caregiver
role strain through the implementation of a family psychoeducation program in
Medan City. The research method used is to use the assessment and interview
format for clients who care for family members with auditory hallucinations at
home. The results of the senior practicum showed that caregivers experienced
significant stress in all four aspects, with the greatest impact on emotional
conditions and personal social life. The implementation of the family
psychoeducation program has been shown to help caregivers understand the
client's condition, manage stress, and build more adaptive coping mechanisms for
the stress they feel. This program also improves the client's ability as a caregiver
to care for clients more patiently and in a focused manner. The conclusion of this
senior practicum shows that family psychoeducation interventions are very
beneficial for clients in helping to reduce the psychological burden experienced in
carrying out their role as caregivers.
