Background: Pharmaceutical Industry is a business entity that has a license in
accordance with the applicable laws and regulations to carry out the manufacturing of
medicines or medicinal ingredients. PT. Prima Medika Laboratories is one of the
pharmaceutical industries in Indonesia that produces various forms of medicine
preparations. To ensure the quality, safety, and efficacy of medicines, pharmaceutical
industries are required to implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
Objective: The Professional Pharmacist Internship Program (PKPA) aims to provide
direct understanding and learning about the roles, functions, and responsibilities of
pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as to understand the implementation
of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) at PT. Prima Medika Laboratories in producing
safe, effective, and high-quality medicines.
Method: The Professional Pharmacist Internship Program (PKPA) was conducted at PT.
Prima Medika Laboratories from May 5 to June 27, 2025, using direct observation,
induction/training, field practice in the Quality Assurance Department, and an
introduction to activities in other departments such as Production, Quality Control,
Warehouse, and Engineering.
Results: The PKPA activities provided the author with practical experience related to the
implementation of Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), especially in quality assurance
activities including validation, qualification, and calibration. In addition, the author
gained an understanding of the production flow, quality assurance of intermediate
products, bulk products, finished products, and other supporting systems applied in the
pharmaceutical industry.
Conclusion: Through PKPA at PT. Prima Medika Laboratories, the author acquired
knowledge, skills, and real experience regarding pharmaceutical work in the
pharmaceutical industry. Consistent implementation of GMP is key to ensuring the
quality of medicines. This experience is expected to serve as a foundation for prospective
pharmacists to actively participate in the pharmaceutical industry.
