Background: The pharmaceutical industry is a business entity authorized under national regulations to manufacture medicines or drug substances. The entire process must comply with Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP). Pharmacists play a vital role in ensuring the safety, efficacy, and quality of medicines. Therefore, competent pharmacists are required, supported by knowledge, skills, and direct experience in the pharmaceutical industry.
Objective: The Pharmacist Professional Work Practice (PKPA) at Lembaga Farmasi TNI Angkatan Udara Drs. Roostyan Effendie, Bandung, aimed to provide prospective pharmacists with real experiences in understanding the roles, functions, and responsibilities of pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry, as well as the implementation of GMP in production, quality assurance, and quality control processes.
Summary: The PKPA was conducted from March 3 to April 30, 2025. Activities included observation and practice in production, Quality Control (QC), and Quality Assurance (QA), as well as supporting systems such as HVAC, compressed air, water treatment, wastewater management, and warehouse management. Participants were directly involved in line clearance, product release, dosage form evaluation, supplier qualification, and documentation. This program provided comprehensive insights into production flow and quality assurance systems in the pharmaceutical industry.
Conclusion: The PKPA at Lafiau Roostyan Effendie demonstrated that pharmacists are key personnel in ensuring the quality of pharmaceutical products. The program equipped prospective pharmacists with practical knowledge and experience in implementing GMP in the pharmaceutical industry, serving as essential preparation for their future professional roles.
