Cancer is one of the leading causes of death in the world with an increasing incidence and mortality rate. Chemotherapy is one of the main options in cancer management, but often causes side effects that affect the physical and psychological comfort of patients. One of the non-pharmacological approaches that can be used to reduce these side effects is Progressive Muscle Relaxation (PMR) therapy. This senior practice activity aims to determine the effect of progressive muscle relaxation therapy on comfort disorders in patients undergoing chemotherapy. The method used in the implementation of this nursing care is with progressive muscle relaxation techniques performed by tensing all muscles and relaxing them for 10 seconds with the duration of all movements 10-15 minutes and lasted for 3 days in seven chemotherapy patients in the Chemotherapy Room of Prof. Dr. Chairuddin P. Lubis Medan Hospital during the period 10-21 May 2025. The evaluation results showed a decrease in complaints of discomfort and anxiety after repeated progressive muscle relaxation therapy. Patients who were cooperative and performed the exercises independently showed a faster decrease in discomfort compared to patients who were less active or had limited physical condition. This therapy is proven to be effective as a supportive intervention to reduce discomfort due to chemotherapy side effects. Progressive muscle relaxation therapy can be used as a useful nursing intervention strategy in improving the comfort of cancer patients during treatment.
