Chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is a general term encompassing various conditions, including emphysema and chronic bronchitis, which cause shortness of breath, especially during physical activity. This study aimed to implement nursing care using progressive muscle relaxation techniques to reduce sleep pattern disorders in COPD patients. This study was conducted using a case study method with a nursing process approach, which includes: assessment, data analysis, nursing planning, implementation, and evaluation. The nursing diagnoses identified for Mr. R based on data analysis were three in number: Ineffective Airway Clearance, Nutritional Deficit, and Sleep Pattern Disturbance. The evaluation criteria for the ineffective airway clearance intervention were a reduction in shortness of breath complaints. The evaluation criteria for the nutritional deficiency intervention showed an increase in appetite, although not yet significant. Furthermore, the evaluation criteria for the progressive muscle relaxation technique intervention for sleep pattern disturbances indicated that Mr. R experienced an improvement in sleep quality based on subjective evaluation and a reduction in fatigue symptoms.
