    Abstract
This article is entitled Construction of Self-Esteem in Traders' Children (Case Study: Five Batak Trader Families in Pajak Horas, Pematangsiantar City). The purpose of this study was conducted by the researcher to determine the description of self-esteem and self-image in children of Batak Toba traders in Pajak Horas, Pematangsiantar City, both in terms of self-acceptance, self-esteem, and social perception of themselves, To understand the factors that influence Self- esteem and self-image in children of traders, such as family background, social support, experiences of discrimination or stigma, and relationships with the surrounding environment and also to explore the role of the family, especially parents as traders, in shaping the self-confidence and self-image of their children. This research is also examined from an anthropological perspective, in which anthropology is the scientific discipline that studies human beings in various aspects of their life. The method used in this study is a qualitative research method that aims to obtain in-depth results regarding the conditions that occur in the children of traders using a phenomenological approach. This study also attempts to see the relationship between self-esteem and self-image possessed by the children of traders and also see aspects of parenting patterns applied by the families of traders. This study also looks at how Batak culture builds and improves Self-esteem and self-image in the children of traders, with the values of hamoraon, hagabeon and hasangapon and the philosophy of Anakkon hi do hamoraon di au. With these values, can it help children of traders improve their levels of self-esteem and self- image or even children of traders do not really consider that the philosophical values in this are not very important in improving self-esteem and self- image in themselves. The results of this study indicate that self-esteem and self-image are interrelated. self-esteem in children of traders is not entirely low, their self-esteem varies depending on how personal experiences in living social life, support from family and their education. The self-image of children of traders is influenced by parental perception, social experience, and self-reflection. Positive perceptions from parents and the environment support a positive self-image, while negative perceptions can cause feelings of inferiority. Parenting patterns applied by parents greatly influence the formation of children's self-esteem and self-image. Batak cultural values can strengthen self-esteem if applied positively and supportively.
