Nursing Care Management for Elderly with Cardiovascular System Disorders: Hypertension through the Provision of DASHI Diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension)
Abstract
Hypertension, or high blood pressure, is a medical condition characterized by a persistent increase in blood pressure within the blood vessels. This condition can be life-threatening, especially in the elderly, if not properly controlled. Management of hypertension can be achieved through both pharmacological and non-pharmacological therapies. One effective non-pharmacological approach is the DASH diet (Dietary Approaches to Stop Hypertension). The aim of this senior nursing practice was to examine the effect of the DASII diet on reducing blood pressure in three elderly individuals with hypertension in Environment VI, Sukamaju Sub-district, West Binjai District. The results of nursing care management showed a decrease in blood pressure values in all three respondents after receiving the DASH diet intervention. Therefore, it can be concluded that the DASH diet is effective in lowering blood pressure among the elderly in the observed area. Non-pharmacological interventions such as the DASH diet are recommended as an alternative effort to control blood pressure in elderly patients with hypertension
