Pengaruh Coping Stress terhadap Tingkat Stres pada Anak Binaan di Lembaga Pembinaan Khusus Anak (LPKA) Kelas I Tanjung Gusta Medan
The Influence of Coping Stress on Stress Levels in Children in the Special Child Development Institution (LPKA) Class I Tanjung Gusta Medan
Abstract
This study aims to determine the effect of problem-focused coping and emotion-focused coping on stress levels among juvenile inmates at the Class I Juvenile Correctional Facility (LPKA) in Tanjung Gusta, Medan. The research employed a quantitative method with simple linear regression analysis. The study involved 132 juvenile inmates selected using Slovin’s formula. The instruments used were the Ways of Coping scale (Lazarus & Folkman) to measure coping stress, and the Perceived Stress Scale (PSS-10) to measure stress levels. The results indicated that problem-focused coping contributed 12.3% to stress levels, while emotion-focused coping contributed 9%. These findings reveal that both coping strategies are utilized by juvenile inmates, with the choice of strategy adjusted to the type of stressor encountered. This study highlights the importance of providing support and rehabilitation programs that help juvenile inmates manage stress adaptively.
