Background: Hospitals are healthcare institutions that provide comprehensive
individual health care, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care.
Pharmacists, particularly those working in hospitals, are required to implement the
paradigm shift in pharmaceutical care from product-oriented to patient-oriented.
Therefore, pharmacist competency needs to be continuously improved to
implement this paradigm shift.
Objective: The aim of this PKPA is for prospective pharmacists to be able to
understand the roles and responsibilities of pharmacists, problems in hospitals,
and have experience in pharmaceutical practice in managing pharmaceutical
installations in hospitals professionally in accordance with applicable professional
laws and regulations.
Summary: PKPA activities carried out include identifying over-the-counter
drugs, limited over-the-counter drugs, prescription drugs, narcotics,
psychotropics, precursor drugs, certain drugs and medical devices, providing selfmedication
services and drug information to patients as well as drug services in
the form of prescriptions in the form of screening, compounding and dispensing,
as well as making daily records of self-medication and prescription services.
Conclusion: Prospective pharmacists are able to improve their understanding of
the roles, functions and responsibilities of pharmacists in pharmaceutical services
in hospitals.
