Background: Cancer is a disease caused by the growth of abnormal body tissue cells in the body that turn into cancer cells, thus damaging other body tissue cells. Cancer sufferers often complain of lumps caused by the cancer itself, usually accompanied by severe and prolonged pain.
Methods: This study is a case study involving 3 cancer patients with chronic pain at the Haji Adam Malik General Hospital Medan. The purpose of this study was to implement nursing care management with lavender, jasmine, rosemary aromatherapy methods combined with progressive muscle relaxation therapy and mindfulness meditation and to compare the 3 most effective aromatherapies in reducing pain intensity in patients with priority problems of discomfort disorders; chronic pain.
Results: Afier applying the lavender, jasmine, rosemary aromatherapy method combined with progressive muscle relaxation therapy and mindfulness meditation in cancer patients, it was found that rosemary aromatherapy was the most effective in reducing the level of pain intensity in cancer patients, before being given rosemary aromatherapy in 3 people who experienced moderate to severe pain with a scale range of 4-7, while after being given rosemary aroma, the pain intensity of cancer patients showed results, namely 3 people with pain intensity becoming mild pain to no pain with a scale range of 0-3. Conclusion: The application of aromatherapy combined with progressive muscle relaxation therapy and mindfulness meditation both have an effect on reducing pain intensity, but rosemary aromatherapy is more effective in reducing pain intensity in cancer patients with discomfort disorders; chronic pain.
