Pharmacy Profesional Practice Report Hospital at Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital Medan
Abstract
Background: Hospitals are health care facilities that provide comprehensive
individual health care services through promotive, preventive, curative,
rehabilitative, and/or palliative health care by providing inpatient, outpatient, and
emergency services. The provision of pharmaceutical services in hospitals must
comply with pharmaceutical service standards as stipulated in Regulation of the
Minister of Health of the Republic of Indonesia No. 72 of 2016 to improve the
quality of pharmaceutical services, ensure legal certainty for pharmaceutical
personnel, and protect patients and the public from the irrational use of drugs in the
context of patient safety. To implement pharmaceutical service practices in
hospitals, pharmacy students as future pharmacists must acquire sufficient
knowledge and practical experience, one of which can be obtained through the
Pharmacy Professional Practice Program (PKPA). The Pharmacy Professional
Education Program at the University of North Sumatra collaborates with Dr.
Pirngadi Regional General Hospital, which is a teaching hospital.
Objective: The Professional Pharmacist Work Practice (PKPA) at Dr. Pirngadi
Regional General Hospital aims to study the role and function of pharmacists in
managing pharmaceutical supplies and clinical pharmacy services at Dr. Pirngadi
Regional General Hospital in Medan.
Method: PKPA activity was carried out from January 6, 2024 to February 28, 2024
for 40 consecutive working days with a duration of 7 hours per day for 5 working
days a week at the Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital. Activities carried out
during the PKPA included: learning about the functions and duties of hospitals in
public health services, learning about the work system of the Hospital Pharmacy
Installation, learning about the distribution system for pharmaceutical supplies in
hospitals, which included: inpatient services, outpatient services, emergency room
services, Central Surgery Installation services, Chemotherapy services,
Hemodialysis services, and Warehousing.
Result: Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital in Medan has 76 pharmaceutical
staff consisting of 8 pharmacists and 64 employees consisting of pharmaceutical
technical and administrative staff. The number of pharmacists employed by Dr.
Pirngadi Regional General Hospital in Medan is in accordance with applicable
regulations, whereby type B hospitals must have 8 pharmacists.
Conclusion: After conducting the Pharmacist Professional Education Work
Practice at Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital in Medan, it was concluded that
pharmacists at Dr. Pirngadi Regional General Hospital in Medan have carried out
their roles and functions in managing pharmaceutical supplies and providing
clinical pharmacy services.
