| dc.description.abstract | The pharmaceutical industry plays a vital role in ensuring the availability of
safe, high-quality, and effective medicines for society. Pharmacists are required to
understand and implement Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP/CPOB) to
maintain product quality. Therefore, students of the Professional Pharmacist Study
Program at Universitas Sumatera Utara are required to undertake the Pharmacist
Professional Work Practice (PKPA) in the pharmaceutical industry as professional
training.
The purpose of PKPA at PT. Pharos Indonesia was to understand the roles,
functions, and responsibilities of pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry, as
well as to study the direct implementation of GMP in drug development and
manufacturing processes.
The method of implementation included observation, discussion,
mentoring, and guided practice across several departments, particularly the Product
Development Department. Activities involved formulation development, process
optimization, verification and validation of analytical methods, stability testing,
product registration, and coordination with Quality Control and Quality Assurance.
The results showed that pharmacists play a strategic role in every stage of
production, from formulation design to the distribution of finished products. Direct
involvement in validation, documentation, and quality control activities enhanced
students’ understanding of GMP standards and their application in the
pharmaceutical industry.
In conclusion, PKPA at PT. Pharos Indonesia significantly contributed to improving
the competencies of pharmacy students, particularly in technical, regulatory, and
professional aspects, thereby preparing them to actively and responsibly engage in
the pharmaceutical industry.
