Abstract

Seizures in children are a clinical manifestation of various injuries, neurological conditions and one of the common causes of pediatric hospitalization with significant mortality and morbidity. Improper management of seizures can have adverse effects on the child, both physically and psychologically, requiring appropriate management and parental involvement. Seizure management education using video is one of the evidence-based intervention practices to improve parents' understanding and involvement in caring for children with seizures. The method used in this senior practice is nursing care in the form of interviews and education using videos. The participants in this practice were mothers who had children with seizures in the pediatric inpatient room of Prof.Dr.Chairuddin P.Lubis Hospital, totaling 3 mothers. The results of this video education intervention showed an increase in maternal understanding and knowledge after being given video education related to the management of children's seizures in the hospital and care at home. The conclusion shows that the intervention of providing education using video is proven effective in increasing maternal understanding and involvement related to seizure management. Suggestions for nursing services to be more active in providing education and information related to seizures, especially to mothers who have children with seizures so that mothers will realize the importance of their involvement and handling in caring for children with seizures.
