Analysis of Efficiency of Hitachi Zaxis 138 MF dan Komatsu PC 135F in Logging at PT. Toba Pulp Lestari Tbk, Aek Nauli Sector
Abstract
Skidding is a crucial stage in the timber harvesting process, serving to transport logs from the felling site to the collection area. This study aims to analyze the efficiency of two heavy equipment units Hitachi Zaxis 138 MF and Komatsu PC 135F excavators in skidding operations at PT Toba Pulp Lestari, Tbk. Measurements were conducted by comparing working time, processed log volume, and operational costs, based on field observations and 30 repetitions for each machine. Additionally, several factors influencing efficiency such as skidding distance, log volume, topographical conditions, weather, and operator skill were also analyzed. The results show that both machines have different efficiency levels, which have implications for operational costs and overall productivity. This study is expected to provide recommendations for selecting the optimal heavy equipment for skidding operations, supporting sustainable and efficient forest resource utilization.
