Nursing Care for Children with Pulmonary Tuberculosis Experiencing Emotional Problems due to Hospitalisation through the Application of Storytelling at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital
Abstract
Pulmonary tuberculosis is an infectious disease caused by Mycobacterium tuberculosis and requires intensive hospital care to ensure treatment compliance. However, hospitalisation can be a foreign and stressful experience for children, potentially triggering various emotional issues such as anxiety, fear, and regressive behaviour. This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of storytelling in addressing emotional issues and anxiety resulting from hospitalisation in children with pulmonary tuberculosis at Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital. The method used was nursing care with a nursing process approach, starting from assessment, diagnosis, intervention, implementation, to evaluation. The measurement of anxiety levels and emotional issues was conducted using the Children’s Fear Scale (CFS). The evaluation results after three days of storytelling implementation showed a significant reduction in anxiety levels and improvement in emotional condition, evident from changes in children’s behaviour, such as increased cheerfulness, improved eye contact, and greater activity during therapy. The conclusion of this study is that the application of storytelling is effective in reducing anxiety levels and helping to address emotional issues in children with pulmonary tuberculosis due to the impact of hospitalisation
