Fenomena Judi Online di kalangan Mahasiswa: Analisis Sosial Dan Budaya ( Studi Kasus Mahasiswa FISIP Sumatera Utara)

Abstract

From a cultural perspective, online gambling is a form of adaptation to rapid societal change, as information and communication technology (ICT) makes it easier for young people to access these activities. The increasingly widespread phenomenon of online gambling among the younger generation, particularly university students, has become an important focus in the socio-cultural context. This study examines the phenomenon of online gambling among university students, specifically at the Faculty of Social and Political Sciences, University of North Sumatra (FISIP). This research uses a qualitative approach and case studies, including in-depth interviews and observations of FISIP students' participation in the online gambling phenomenon. The results indicate that several aspects motivate students to participate in online gambling, such as social pressure, the desire for entertainment, and peer influence. Furthermore, this study identifies the negative impacts of online gambling, such as financial problems, social relationships, and psychological consequences that can affect students' mental health. This research is expected to provide further insight into the phenomenon of online gambling among university students and serve as a consideration for universities and policymakers in developing strategies to prevent and address online gambling problems on campus.
