Analysis of Factors That Influence Cocoa Production in Lau Baleng District, Karo Regency
Abstract
This study aims to analyze the factors that influence cocoa production in Lau Baleng Subdistrict, Karo Regency. Cocoa is one of the plantation commodities that plays an important role in supporting the local economy in the region. The method used in this research is multiple linear regression with independent variables including land area, amount of fertilizer, amount of herbicide, and number of laborers, while the dependent variable is cocoa production. The data used in this study are primary data obtained through direct interviews with cocoa farmers in Lau Baleng Subdistrict. The results of the analysis show that land area, amount of fertilizer, and amount of herbicide have a significant effect on cocoa production, while labor does not have a significant effect. This indicates that the increase in cocoa production is more influenced by technical factors such as land availability and production inputs rather than the number of laborers used. Based on these findings, it is recommended that the government and relevant stakeholders pay more attention to the provision of agricultural production facilities and support the expansion of cocoa cultivation land to improve the productivity of cocoa farmers in Lau Baleng Subdistrict.
