Background: A hospital is a government health facility that provides comprehensive
individual health services, providing inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care. One of the
services provided at a hospital is pharmaceutical services. Pharmaceutical service standards in
hospitals include the management of pharmaceutical preparations, medical devices, and
consumable medical supplies, as well as clinical pharmacy services.
Objective: The purpose of the Pharmacist Professional Internship (PKPA) at Prof. Dr. H.
Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital was to develop an understanding of the duties and roles
of pharmacists in accordance with Minister of Health Regulation No. 72 of 2016 concerning
Pharmaceutical Service Standards in Hospitals.
Methods: The PKPA was conducted at Prof. Dr. H. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital,
involving direct observation, participation, and documentation of pharmaceutical activities,
including pharmaceutical preparation management and clinical pharmacy services.
Results: Activities included planning, requisitioning, receiving, storing, distributing,
controlling, recording, reporting, and evaluating pharmaceutical preparations and consumable
medical materials (BMHP). Additionally, clinical pharmacy services were provided, including
prescription review, drug information services (PIO), counseling, monitoring of adverse drug
effects (MESO), and monitoring of drug therapy (PTO). The PKPA provided real-world
experience in addressing challenges and strategies for optimizing pharmaceutical services at
the primary care level.
Conclusion: There is an increase in the understanding of prospective pharmacists about the
duties and roles of pharmacists in hospitals in accordance with the Regulation of the Minister
of Health number 72 of 2016 concerning Pharmaceutical Service Standards in Hospitals;
Prospective pharmacists can apply the knowledge they have acquired during their studies and
apply it during work practice in hospitals.
