| dc.description.abstract | Background: A hospital is a healthcare institution that provides comprehensive
individual health services, including inpatient, outpatient, and emergency care.
Pharmacy services are an integral part of the hospital healthcare system.
Therefore, pharmacists need to be equipped with the necessary skills, expertise,
and knowledge in managing pharmaceutical preparations, medical devices, and
medical consumables, as well as in delivering clinical pharmacy services in
hospitals through the Pharmacist Professional Internship.
Objective: The Pharmacist Professional Internship aims to enhance prospective
pharmacists’ understanding of the roles, functions, positions, and responsibilities
of pharmacists in hospital pharmacy services and to prepare them to enter the
workforce as professional pharmaceutical personnel.
Summary: The Pharmacist Professional Internship activities conducted at UPTD
Khusus Rumah Sakit Umum Haji Medan included the management of
pharmaceutical preparations, medical devices, and medical consumables, covering
drug selection, planning, procurement, receipt, storage, distribution, destruction
and recall, control, administration, reporting, and clinical pharmacy services.
These clinical services comprised prescription review and dispensing, medication
history taking, medication reconciliation, drug information services, patient
counseling, ward rounds, therapeutic drug monitoring, adverse drug reaction
monitoring, drug use evaluation, sterile preparation dispensing, as well as
pharmacy services for inpatients, outpatients, and other clinical pharmacy
practices. In addition, activities also involved the management of the central
sterile supply department, medical gases, and liquid waste management.
Conclusion: After completing the Pharmacist Professional Internship at UPTD
Khusus Rumah Sakit Umum Haji Medan, prospective pharmacists have gained a
comprehensive understanding of the roles, functions, and responsibilities of
hospital pharmacists, particularly in pharmaceutical, medical device, and
