The Relationship Between Risk Factors and the Incidence of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Among Adults Aged 40-65 at Padang Bulan Health Center Medan in 2025
Abstract
Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus (T2DM) is one of non-communicable disease which is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by blood sugar level above the normal limit. According to the International Diabetes Federation, the global prevalence of diabetes in the age range 20-79 years in 2021 is at 10,5%. Based on the 2018 Basic Health Research survey, the prevalence of physician-diagnosed diabetes mellitus was 1,5 % among the entire population of Indonesia, in North Sumatra Province it was 1,39 %, and in Medan City it reached 1,71 %. Based on the data in the Community Health Center of Padang Bulan Medan, type 2 diabetes mellitus is one of the highest non-communicable disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between risk factors and the incidence of type 2 diabetes mellitus. This research sample is consisted of 112 individuals aged 40-65 years who received treatment at the Padang Bulan Community Health Center Medan. The type of research used is quantitative research with a cross-sectional design. The result of data collection were processed by using univariate analysis and bivariate analysis with the chi-square statiscal test. The result showed that there was a relationship between age (p < 0,05), family history (p < 0,05), stress (p < 0,05), obesity (p < 0,05), and physical activity (p < 0,05) with the type2 diabetes mellitus. It is recommended that the community undergo regular blood glucose screenings to maintain control and prevent type 2 diabetes mellitus, and that the Padang Bulan Community Health Center in Medan through the Medan City Health Office implement an education program on type 2 diabetes mellitus.
