Management of Nursing Care for Increasing Elderly Knowledge About Prevention of Diabetes Mellitus Complications in Environment VIII, Pangkalan Masyhur Village, Medan Johor
Abstract
Elderly is a phase of declining intellectual and physical abilities, which begins with several changes in life. Elderly health is an important concern in nursing services, especially in promotive and preventive aspects. Diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by increased blood glucose due to decreased insulin secretion by pancreatic beta cells and/or insulin resistance. Diabetes mellitus treatment is pharmacological and non-pharmacological. Increasing elderly knowledge of DM complications can be done through leaflet media which is easily used as a medium for delivering learning materials in an interesting way, so that respondents do not get bored with the material presented. The purpose of this senior practicum is to provide nursing care to elderly people with diabetes mellitus to lower blood sugar levels in 5 clients in Lingkungan VIII, Pangkalan Masyhu Village, Medan Johor. Based on the results of nursing care management for clients, there is a difference in blood glucose levels of respondents before and after being given education about preventing DM complications. It can be concluded that providing education through effective leaflet media can lower blood glucose levels in the community in Lingkungan VIII, Pangkalan Masyhu Village, Medan Johor. It is recommended to lower blood sugar levels through activities that have been carried out and use pharmacological and non-pharmacological treatments so that blood sugar levels can be controlled.
