Indonesia is currently experiencing developments in various industrial
fields. One industry that has developed a lot is the chemical industry. One of the
unmet chemical needs is melamine formaldehyde (MF) resin which is obtained
from the reaction between melamine and methanal compounds. MF resin can be
produced using cellulose raw materials that can be ensured availability and
sustainability. The MF Resin plant design from Melamine and Methanal
continuously by condensation polymerisation is designed with a production
capacity of 5.300 tonnes per year, and is planned to operate for 330 days per year
in the Sei Mangkei Kawasan Ekonomi Khusus (KEK), North Sumatra. The results
of the technical analysis show the melamine raw material requirement of 583.34
kg/hour and steam consumption of 14,346.11 kJ/hour. From the economic side,
the Return on Investment (ROI) value of 24.03%, Internal Rate Return (IRR) of
24.78%, and Pay Out Time for 4.16 years were obtained. The profit margin
reached 24.54% and the Break Even Point (BEP) was at the level of 41.09%.
Based on the results of these analyses, the establishment of the MF Resin Plant
from melamine and methanal is declared technically and economically feasible,
and has the potential to support the development of national renewable energy.
