Karakteristik Sedotan Purun (Lepironia articulata) yang telah Diberi Pewarna Alami Setelah Disimpan Dua Bulan

Abstract

Purun danau (Lepironia articulata) is a type of wild grass that grows near water or swamps. The purpose of this study was to measure the metal contamination in the water where the lake purun (L. Articulata) grows, to analyze the effect of natural dyes on the physical properties and tensile strength of purun straws, to analyze the level of color stability in purun straws after being stored for 2 months, to analyze the level of public preference for naturally colored purun straws.The methods used in this study were analysis of Fe and Pb metal contamination tests, physical and mechanical properties tests, calorimeter tests, hedonic tests, shelf life of purun straws for 2 months, and data analysis. For the results obtained in this study, the results of the Fe and Pb metal contamination test in the water which after being tested the results meet the standards. Based on statistical analysis, the physical (water content and density) and mechanical (tensile test) properties of purun straws showed decrease after two months of storage. The results of the calorimeter test after being stored for two months showed that the control straw without coloring, the telang formula straw, the ketapang formula straw had a very large color difference scale value, while the angsana formula straw had a large value. Meanwhile, the hedonic test results showed a most preffered level is the butterfly pea flower color formula. Overall, the two-month storage period significantly affected the characteristics of naturally dyed purun straws, including physical, mechanical, calorimeter, hedonic, and coloring stability properties.
