Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) is a progressive and permanent decline in kidney function over an extended period. This deterioration is irreversible and requires renal replacement therapy. Hemodialysis is one such therapy that assists kidney function in eliminating metabolic waste and toxins from the body. One of the common side effects experienced during or after hemodialysis is fatigue. A non-pharmacological approach that can help reduce fatigue is relaxation therapy using the Slow Deep Breathing technique. The objective of this senior practicum was to evaluate the effect of the Slow Deep Breathing technique on fatigue experienced by patients undergoing hemodialysis. The nursing intervention applied in this study involved the Slow Deep Breathing technique performed over two sessions in accordance with the patients' dialysis schedule, with a duration of five minutes per session. The intervention was conducted on five patients in the hemodialysis unit of Prof. Dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Teaching Hospital from June 10 to June 21, 2025. The results demonstrated a reduction in fatigue and an increase in patient comfort following the intervention. This relaxation therapy using the Slow Deep Breathing technique proved to be effective as a complementary intervention in reducing fatigue in patients undergoing hemodialysis. It is highly recommended that this technique be taught to patients to help alleviate fatigue and enhance overall comfort.
