Pengaruh Berbagai Bangsa Kambing pada Tingkah Laku Seksual dan Kualitas Semen
The Effect of Different Goat Breeds in Sexual Behaviour and Semen Quality
Abstract
Males used as semen sources for artificial insemination should undergo
evaluation of sexual behavior and semen quality as essential parameters. This
study aimed to analyze the differences in sexual behavior and semen quality
among different breeds of male goats. The study was conducted at BIB Lembang
(for semen collection) and BRIN (for observation of spermatozoa motility
patterns). The method used was a Completely Randomized Design involving four
goat breeds: Boer, PE (Ettawa Crossbreed), Saanen, and Anglo Nubian, with two
males per breed and ten replications (semen collections). Observation of
spermatozoa motility patterns used two straws of frozen semen analyzed with the
CASA method. Observed variables included sexual behavior and semen quality
(both macroscopic and microscopic), and data were analyzed using ANOVA
followed by Duncan’s multiple range test. The results showed that sexual
behavior differed significantly (P<0.05) among breeds. The shortest reaction time
was observed in PE (19.85±17.05 seconds), while PE and Anglo Nubian showed
the highest erection scores (3.00±0.00). PE had the highest number of mountings
(5.85±1.60), Boer had the longest ejaculation time (137.95±73.28 seconds), Anglo
Nubian had the highest thrust score (2.45±0.69), and fixation strength did not
differ significantly (P>0.05). Anglo Nubian also had the longest refractory period
(104.45±42.73 seconds). Semen quality differed significantly (P<0.05) among
breeds in terms of volume and pH, with Boer showing the highest values
(2.66±0.78 mL and 6.70±0.09). Total spermatozoa count differed significantly
(P<0.05), while total motile spermatozoa did not (P>0.05). Boer had the highest
values for both parameters (5680.91±1598.14 and 3795.37±1250.31
million/ejaculate). Spermatozoa motility patterns showed no significant
differences in VAP, VCL, VSL, DAP, DCL, and WOB. However, significant
differences (P<0.05) were found in DSL, Saanen having the highest (21.99±3.01
μm/second), and in STR and LIN, Boer showing the highest values (0.69±0.04%
and 0.45±0.03%). The longest ALH was found in Anglo Nubian (6.19±0.39 μm),
and the highest BCF was recorded in Boer (25.56±1.87 Hz).
