The image of a city is formed from a mental picture of the city's identity that is
captured by the senses and understood by each individual in the form of a
distinctive or unique impression and view of the city. The image of a city is
important in planning city development programs in order to shape the city's
identity and increase its attractiveness. The city of Sei Rampah is one of the
capitals that will be passed when crossing the East Sumatra route. This city has
historical value and in recent years has experienced significant urban
development. Residents' perceptions of the city's image are very important in
determining an individual's desire to settle and the formation of pride in the city
where he lives. To determine residents' perceptions of the city image in Sei
Rampah, a questionnaire was used to distribute 100 respondents. The city image
scale statement was taken from Gilboa (2015) with 20 research instruments, with
positive, neutral and negative perception parameters. From the analysis process,
11 neutral assessments were obtained, and 9 positive assessments regarding the
variables of city facilities, recreation, security and public services. These results
explain that residents' perceptions tend not to have a distinctive impression of the
city's image with a tendency to answer Neutral. From the results of the Lynchian
Element identification on the influence of city development on residents'
perceptions, it is clear that residents have a positive perception of the
infrastructure being built, namely the Masjid Agung in Serdang Bedagai district.
