Analisis Kondisi Sarana dan Prasarana Sanitasi Sekolah Dasar (SD) di Kecamatan Tanah Jawa Kabupaten Simalungun
Analysis of Facilities and Infrastructure Condition of Primary School Sanitation in Tanah Jawa Sub-district Simalungun District
Abstract
Changes in people's lifestyles in the era of globalization also have an impact on
increasing health problems among elementary school children, especially due to
the low implementation of Clean and Healthy Living Behavior (PHBS). Schools
play an important role in creating a healthy learning environment and supporting
student growth and development. This study aimed to assess the condition of
sanitation facilities and infrastructure in 10 primary schools in Tanah Jawa sub
district, Simalungun district, referring to the Ministry of Education and Culture's
Clean and Healthy Primary School (SDBS) indicators. This type of research is
descriptive observational with observation data collection techniques and
interviews with school principals. The eight sanitation components observed
included: school building, hygiene facilities, bathroom/WC and urinal facilities,
UKS room, canteen, school environment, water source and sanitation, and waste
disposal site. The assessment instrument was a checklist of 112 indicators with a
scoring system (0 and 1), which was then calculated into a percentage of eligibility
(maximum weight of 35 points). All schools showed results below the eligibility
threshold, with the highest score of 22.5 (64.29%) and the lowest score of 12.5
(35.71%). The component with the lowest result was waste management, where only
one school partially met the indicators. Hygiene facilities were also inadequate,
with seven schools scoring ≤2 out of a total of 6. None of the schools provided
segregated waste bins, soap or carbolic acid in the bathroom, handwashing stations
in the canteen, or basic medical supplies in the UKS room. This finding indicates
the weak physical and administrative management of school sanitation. Therefore,
it is recommended that BOS funds be utilized gradually to improve basic sanitation,
as well as further research to identify inhibiting factors in meeting ideal and
sustainable sanitation standards.
