    Abstract
This study aims to explore the experience of family support as perceived by cancer patients undergoing treatment at the Indonesian Cancer Foundation (YKI) Shelter, North Sumatra Branch. Using a descriptive qualitative approach, the study involved eight participants selected through total sampling. All participants were cancer patients undergoing treatments such as chemotherapy, radiotherapy, and surgery. Data were collected through in-depth interviews to explore the types of family support received by patients during the course of treatment. The findings revealed four main themes regarding family support experienced by patients: emotional support, informational support, instrumental support, and appraisal support. Emotional support was provided in the form of encouragement, attention, and motivation, which played a significant role in maintaining the patients' psychological well-being. Informational support emerged through the patients" initiatives to seek information about their treatment, supported by their families who offered suggestions and shared relevant information. Instrumental support included practical assistance such as transportation, financial aid for treatment, and fulfillment of daily needs, which greatly facilitated the patients' ability to undergo treatment especially through access to shelter facilities and health insurance (BPJS). Appraisal support was reflected in the recognition of the patients' resilience and their gratitude for the support received from their families. This study highlights the critical role of family support in holistically assisting cancer patients throughout the treatment process. Therefore, a community-based nursing approach involving the family is essential to improve patients' quality of life and adherence to treatment
