Linguistic Politeness in the Film Bell Warning by Khalid Fahad
Abstract
This research is motivated by the phenomenon of declining language politeness in the digital era, especially on social media, which impacts the morals of the younger generation and contradicts the principles of communication in Islam. The Arab film Warning Bell by Khalid Fahad, with a duration of 1 hour and 32 minutes, is chosen as the object of study because it depicts language politeness in a girls' school environment. The aim of the research is to classify and describe the application of six principles of language politeness based on politeness theory. The research method used is a descriptive qualitative approach through library research with observation methods and free conversation observation techniques and note-taking techniques, as well as pragmatic equivalence data analysis, where the determining tool is the conversation partner used to identify. This research also utilizes contextual analysis methods applied to data by basing, considering, and relating the identity of the context. The research results identify 22 data that politeness in language within the speeches of the figures consists of: Tact maxim 3 data, Generosity maxim 3 data, Approbation maxim 3 data, Modesty maxim 5 data, Agreement maxim 5 data, and Sympathy maxim 3 data. Thus, this research is dominated by the modesty maxim and the agreement maxim that values the attitude of humility and the ability to acknowledge mistakes, responsibilities, and reflects the values of a group that harmonizes conflict resolution through agreement.
