This study aims to determine the relationship between peer pressure and social
media addiction among adolescents. This study uses a quantitative approach with a
correlational design. Data collection was conducted through a questionnaire
designed using a Likert scale. The participants in this study consisted of 348
adolescents who actively use social media and have peers aged 15-18 years (M=
16.28, SD=0.76) in the city of Medan. Social media addiction was measured using
the Bergen Facebook Addiction Scale developed by Andreassen (2012) and adapted
into Indonesian by Napitupulu & Rangkuti (2023). Peer pressure was measured
using the Peer Pressure Inventory developed by Clasen & Brown (1985) and
adapted by Lucia et al. (2014). The scale was distributed using Google Forms. The
data obtained were processed using the Spearman's rank correlation test. The results
of the study show that there is a significant and positive relationship between the
Peer Pressure variable and social media addiction (rho = 0.129, p = 0.016 < 0.05),
meaning that the higher the pressure an individual receives from peers, the higher
the level of social media addiction experienced by adolescents.
