Background: The pharmaceutical industry is a business entity that has a licence in accordance with the provisions of laws and regulations to carry out activities related to the manufacture of medicines or medicinal ingredients. In ensuring product quality, the pharmaceutical industry refers to the Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP) guidelines, which require the role of pharmacists in production, quality control, and quality assurance. Efforts are made to develop competent pharmacist candidates through Professional Pharmacist Work Practice (PKPA) in the pharmaceutical industry to provide field experience for pharmacist candidates in understanding the practical implementation of GMP.
Objective: To enhance prospective pharmacists' understanding of the role, function, position, and responsibilities of pharmacists in the pharmaceutical industry; to equip prospective pharmacists with insight, knowledge, skills, and experience in GMP implementation; to provide a realistic picture of pharmaceutical practice issues in the pharmaceutical industry.
Summary: The PKPA activity at PT. Kimia Farma Plant Jakarta was carried out using a combination of structured observation and direct involvement in operational work in accordance with GMP procedures and documentation to gain practical experience.
Conclusion: The implementation of PKPA at PT. Kimia Farma Plant Jakarta provides prospective pharmacists with a direct understanding of the production process and the application of quality systems based on GMP in the pharmaceutical industry. PKPA serves as an effective experience-based learning tool to prepare prospective pharmacists to play a competent and ethical role in the pharmaceutical industry.
