The Role Of Circulation Service Librarians At The Library And Archives Office Of North Sumatera Province
Abstract
This study explores circulation services at the Library and Archives Office of North Sumatera Province, encompassing member registration, borrowing, returning, collection renewal, and overdue enforcement. The research aims to analyze the implementation of circulation services and the strategies librarians employ to address service challenges. A descriptive qualitative approach was applied through observations and interviews with librarians and library users. Findings indicate that circulation services operate in line with established procedures, leveraging the INLISLITE automation system for transaction management. Challenges identified include delayed returns and book damage. Librarians mitigate these issues by optimizing the automation system, enhancing service quality, conducting user awareness activities, and fostering professional collaboration. The study also offers key recommendations such as increasing librarian staffing, expanding the collection, and further utilizing the automation system to enhance service efficiency. The study concludes that circulation services are essential for facilitating information access and sustaining library collections, thereby meeting user needs effectively.
