Profile of Thyroid Cancer Patients Hospitalized at Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan in 2016-2017
Abstract
Cancer is a non-infectious disease with increasing incidence each year and one of the main causes of death worldwide. One type of cancers that is often found in medical facilities is thyroid cancer. It is currently the highest occurring malignancy of endocrine gland in Indonesia. This study aims to evaluate the profile thyroid cancer inpatients in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan from 2016-2017.
This study is a descriptive research with cross sectional design. The study population is all thyroid cancer inpatients in Haji Adam Malik General Hospital in Medan from 2016-2017, and all population are included as study samples based on total sampling method.
There were total of 64 thyroid cancer inpatients included in this study with the proportion of females (71.9%) were greater than males (28.1%). The largest proportion of the patients based on age was 41 - 60 years old (64.1%). Most occupation of the patients was housewife (32.8%). There were more patients who did not have family history of thyroid cancer (76,6%) than the ones who did (23,4%). The largest proportion of the patients based on cancer stage was stage IV (45.3%). Most thyroid cancer type found based on histopathological examination was papillary type (40.6%)
