Effectiveness of Nurse Manager Supervision Effectiveness of Nurse Manager Supervision in Monitoring the Implementation of Hand Over Standard Operating Procedures in the Cendana-Zaitun Inpatient Room, Prof. dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital
Abstract
The implementation of effective nursing handover is one of the important indicators in ensuring patient safety and the quality of nursing services. However, its implementation in the field is often inconsistent and does not comply with the Standard Operating Procedure (SOP), so optimal supervision is needed through the supervision function by the nurse manager. The implementation of this senior practicum aims to evaluate the effectiveness of the nurse manager supervision in monitoring the implementation of the handover SOP in the Cendana-Zaitun inpatient room, Prof. dr. Chairuddin Panusunan Lubis Hospital. The method used is a case study with the Kurt Lewin change theory approach and SWOT and TOWS analysis to formulate intervention strategies. Implementation was carried out for two weeks through direct observation, discussions with the nurse manager, preparation of SOP for handover supervision, and trial implementation of supervision using a checklist instrument. The results showed an increase in the regularity and timeliness of handovers, increased compliance with the SBAR method, and increased responsibility and readiness of nurses. Supervision that was carried out in a structured manner also encouraged the formation of a more professional and reflective work culture. This finding confirms that effective supervision carried out by the nurse manager not only increased compliance with the handover SOP, but also strengthened team communication and patient safety. It is recommended that the nurse manager adopt the SOP for handover supervision as an effort to continuously develop in improving the quality of nursing services.
