This study aims to analyze the semantic relations of التَّرَادُفُ /attarādufu/‘synonym’ and التَّضَادُّ /attaḍāddu/‘antonym’ found in the hadiths of the book Jawahiru al-Bukhari. This is a library research study employing a qualitative descriptive method. The theory used in this study is the Arabic semantic theory that examines the semantic relations. The data collection technique was conducted through observation and note-taking methods in the book of prayer, the book of almsgiving, the book of hajj, and the book of fasting. The findings show that the semantic relation of synonym identified in this study amounts to 21 instances, consisting of: 3 synonyms between free morphemes and bound morphemes, 9 synonyms between words, 1 synonym between a clause and a phrase, 1 synonym between phrases, and 7 synonyms between clauses. Meanwhile, the semantic relation of antonym identified in this study amounts to 47 instances, consisting of: 23 absolute oppositions, 9 polar oppositions, 14 relational oppositions, and 1 hierarchical opposition. Several types of synonym and antonym relations were not found in the hadiths in Jawahiru al-Bukhari, namely: synonyms between bound morphemes, synonyms between words and phrases, synonyms between words and clauses, and compound oppositions. In conclusion, the total number of semantic relations both synonym and antonym identified in this study is 68. These findings indicate that the use of semantic relations of synonym and antonym in hadith texts produces clear and comprehensive meanings, and functions to emphasize, clarify, and differentiate the rulings of worship.
