Uis karo is a traditional woven fabric typical of the Karo tribe that has a long
history and an important role in the life of the Karo people. This fabric is a
traditional Karo clothing that has been passed down from generation to
generation with various types and motifs that have their own meanings, functions, and uses. Uis karo has been around for a long time, and is an inseparable part of the life of the Karo people, with complicated hand weaving techniques. Uis karo has an important role in traditional ceremonies, rituals, and major activities of the Karo tribe. This uis is usually used as a head covering (tudung) for women, on the head (bulang) and on the shoulders, for men, a shawl (uis nipes) for women (bekabuluh) for men, on the waist using uis kampuh / sarong (covering the ankles) for women (below the knees) for men, and sometimes used as clothes in several traditional rituals. There are several types of Karo uis, namely gara uis, nipes uis,kapal uis, bekabuluh uis, kampuh uis, teba uis, gatip uis, and julu uis.
