This research brought up the issue of vandalism on literature collection of Library and Archive Agency in Medan City, with the purpose of knowing the type of vandalism done, its causes, and the efforts of prevention and treatment done by the library. The method of qualitative descriptive was used by collecting data through observation, interview, and documentation. The result of the research showed that vandalism acts often encountered are: tearing up pages, scribbling in books, annotating or folding pages, and hiding the literature collection itself. The main factor of these acts are the visitors’ low awareness, weak supervision, and the lack od education regarding the importance of keeping the community collection. The impact of vandalism is quite serious, not only is it damaged the physical copies of literature collection, but it is also disturbing other visitors’ accesses of information, as well as plummeting the image and quality of library service. This research is hoped to be able to increase the awareness of all parties to have more care and responsibility on preserving public facilities, especially the library collection.
