Effect of Coconut Shell Liquid Smoke Application on Growth of Arabica Coffee Seeds (Coffea arabica L.)
Abstract
Coffee plants are one of the plantation commodities that have a very high economic value and play a very important role in the source of foreign exchange. One of the most important aspects of cultivation in coffee plants is the seedling aspect. This is because the seedling process will determine the productivity of adult coffee plants. Liquid smoke can be used as a biostimulant in plants. Biostimulants are products derived from organic materials that contain bioactive substances that can improve plant performance. This study aims to determine the effect of coconut shell liquid smoke application on the germination of Arabica coffee beans. This research was conducted at Jalan Tuasan No.23, Sidorejo Hilir, Kec. Medan Tembung, Medan City, North Sumatra with research location coordinates 3°61'63.3377 "N and 98°69'71.5273 "E, starting in January 2025 to March 2025. This study used the Complete Randomized Design (CRD) method with 5 treatments, namely soaking in room temperature water, 1% liquid smoke, 2% liquid smoke, 3% liquid smoke, and 4% liquid smoke. The results showed that the application of coconut shell liquid smoke had no significant effect on parameters like germination rate, seedling hypocotyl height, primary root length, and median growth time.
